W e are addressing a pressing problem, which is the inability of most consumers to reliably distinguish genuine ethical brands from imposters. We started researching so-called ethical brands in 1997 and in 2003 we began developing our unbiased, scientific methodology for validating or authenticating de-facto ethical brands so that we could in turn license them to display the ethical brand logo logo - confident in the knowledge that each one is 100% genuine and easily identifiable as such at any point of purchase.

From the outset our challenge was enormous as we set out a number of must-have features for our licensing model, which included a data-driven, evidence based qualification process functioning in near real-time, with an architecture that scales globally. Nothing less than an absolutely unbiased, evidence-based system would do.

The eb licensing model has been thoroughly tested and shaped by the participation of more than 70 organizations on every continent. This approach enabled us to refine our methodology; architect a sustainable solution and unlock an incredible value proposition for brand owners - including a license that is authenticed not once a year but each and every day - free of charge.

Making the decision to eliminate license fees in late 2010 completed our proposition as it fulfilled the last remaining feature we had demanded from the outset, which is to ensure that an ethical brand license can not be bought. Since then we have been preparing for our formal entry into the market in Q3/2011. We have our sights set on licensing 1 million organizations in 52 countries. We hope you will join us.
